Workshop Topics
Toe in the Water
This
class covers the basics of beginning a personal memoir. It includes tips on
organizing stories, topic suggestions and the various ways of approaching
and breaking the project down in manageable segments, as well as a good dose
of motivation.
Writing as a Gift
What
could be more precious than a written collection of family stories, complete
with text and appropriate photographs? This workshop will teach how to create
the text, add the photos and have the pages bound into a priceless gift for
a son, daughter or grandchild.
The Time Machine: World Events
and Me
How
to write a vignette-based memoir of your life juxtaposed against the background
of world events or social and demographic facts. One column has your story,
a second column tells what was going on in world or national events at the
time.
Family Matters
Two
or more participants from each family will write together and get a different
perspective on family history. These may include a spouse, sibling, parent,
child or grandchild. Each family member should be prepared to exchange ideas,
write and compare memories.
In
My Own World
Do
an informal sketch or map of your childhood hometown, neighborhood and a floor
plan of your home. Write about each memorable place, nook or cranny depicted
on the map. Endless memories for story topics will pop up.
Journey of Self-Discovery, Developing
Your Personal Mission Statement
Are
you running on a treadmill and don't quite know where you are headed? How
do you define your version
of purpose and meaning? This class will help you focus on what you really
want in your life and how to use the past to map a road to your future.
